Cooking the harvest at camp in Doshi: potatoes, zucchini and a shared table

Vegetables from a friend’s garden shaped this camping meal in Doshi. Haruru prepared potatoes two ways and brought zucchini and snow peas to the table, enjoying a camp with plenty of cooking ideas.

From haruru.1002’s past accounts.

Preparing a camp table around the vegetables

The plan was to cook with vegetables harvested by a friend. Haruru also brought roast beef she had prepared and frozen ahead of time, recording that she had chosen lightly marbled Japanese Black beef.

She made chijimi again after enjoying it on the previous camp. This time she combined spear-squid tentacles with mixed seafood and cooked it on a multi-griddle.

Potatoes as croquettes and a simple butter dish

Freshly harvested potatoes went into simple croquettes with mixed minced meat and onion. For the first time, she tried breadcrumbs intended for cooking without deep-frying. She liked the result and noted that the croquettes kept their shape.

She boiled the small potatoes, cooked them in butter and seasoned them with salt. Their simple flavour, enjoyed with the skins on, was another favourite.

Zucchini, snow peas and watercress

Large zucchini became a dish with sausages and bacon. In another dish, she added broccoli stems to zucchini and bacon for pasta. She kept the seasoning simple to let the ingredients stand out.

She added garlic chives to the snow-pea and egg stir-fry, noting that this left the snow peas hard to notice. Squid tentacles with browned cheese were another dish her companions enjoyed.

The final salad combined Doshi-grown watercress with cucumber, broccoli and egg, dressed with mayonnaise and onion dressing. She particularly enjoyed the fresh watercress.

A comfortable day for cooking outdoors

The drinks included a cloudy Kyoho grape wine. A photograph shows the bottle with a grape illustration and the words “巨峰にごり”.

It was cloudy without rain. Haruru recorded a temperature of about 24°C and found it comfortable enough to spend time outdoors without sweating.

She had cooked too much again, so her companions took the extra food home. The enjoyable time passed quickly, and they agreed to meet for another camp in September.
