What connectivity does your Japan trip actually need?
A few choices take you to the right guide. No account, email or device identifier is needed. This is a guide finder, not a provider or coverage guarantee.
The practical order for making these decisions

Check your phone compatibility first
If your phone is carrier-locked or does not support eSIM, you cannot use one—no matter the price. Confirm eSIM support and unlock status while you can still adjust your plans.

Know the activation states
Order fulfillment, profile installation, plan activation, and first network connection are four distinct steps. Knowing where the process stalled prevents applying the wrong fix.

Keep data, your home number, and a Japanese number distinct
A data eSIM cannot receive a code addressed to your existing home number. A real Japanese voice-and-SMS line is a third product with its own fulfilment route.

For longer stays: decide between data-only or adding a phone number
A real Japanese phone number offers an official way to verify your identity. Once you exceed a provider’s short-term travel allowance, the identity documents you can provide often matter more than your remaining data.

Then how the group moves
One rented router is one shared connection. If the people who need to stay in contact will be in different places, the number of connections is decided by behaviour, not by budget.

Then arrival and departure
A late landing can miss a pickup counter, and some returns must be completed before airport security. Both are deadlines attached to a flight.

Only then pick your plan
Unlimited is a marketing word. Find the daily high-speed allowance and the speed after it, on whichever product you choose.

A Japanese number; everyday data is already covered
Compare the selected voice plan
The current selector is the place to confirm the voice product offered, its initial eSIM charge, recurring plan charge, call and SMS fees, and billing periods. Select the exact product before comparing its total cost; an older Voice Lite price or image does not establish the current checkout terms.
Check the selected plan’s data allowance and excess charges. A voice plan may include mobile data. Follow that product’s setup instructions and use your intended data line; do not apply an older Voice Lite allowance or extra-data fee to a different product in the selector.
Know before purchase: ID verification (after ordering, or on collection) and a physical eSIM Access Code by post or collection in Japan are required before activation; email delivery is not offered. Check eligible ID, minimum age, collection hours and activation timing. It is not an email-only, immediately usable Japanese number.
For an ongoing monthly service, check termination in MyAccount before departure rather than assuming automatic holiday-plan expiry. Ending the service loses the number. Keep a line active until any ticket delivery, entry and necessary support that depend on that number are complete.

Includes a Japanese voice number, SMS and a selected data allowance. The provider page lists an initial eSIM price and separate plan charges. Check whether the selected plan is short-term or ongoing, including usage fees and renewal conditions.
Know before purchase: ID verification (after ordering, or on collection) and a physical eSIM Access Code obtained by post or collection in Japan are required before activation; email delivery is not offered. A paid order is not proof that the number is already assigned or ready for your ticket deadline.

Data-only eSIM
No Japanese voice number or carrier SMS. This line does not solve a ticket’s domestic-number requirement. Keep any existing number needed for account access separately.
Digital delivery; choose the data allowance and valid days on Mobal’s site. Check the exact handset, when validity begins, hotspot limits and any speed restrictions before paying.
Compare against your existing roaming plan and the cost for your whole group. Do not buy a voice product just to use online maps.
