Naha Airport to American Village: plan a smooth arrival

Choose based on where things could go wrong

   Add immigration, baggage claim, ticket purchase and the walk to the correct stand. Do not use scheduled touchdown as bus-ready time.

   Compare the named hotel stop, Chatan Gateway and Kuwae from the actual entrance, not the centre of an area label.

   Save the next live service, a suitable taxi or transfer, and a Naha first-night option before the original route fails.

No single route is always fastest or cheapest

These use the weekday timetables in force from 19 October 2026 for one or two adults heading to a hotel near Mihama American Village. Allow about 40 minutes from touchdown to standing at the bus stop on a domestic arrival with checked bags (60 minutes if you plan on the limousine, as the operator asks), and longer on an international arrival.

Landing at 12:30: the limousine works

• Okinawa Bus asks for about 60 minutes after landing, so plan to be at stop 1 by about 13:30. Buy the ticket at the Airport Limousine Information Center (Domestic Terminal, 1F arrivals), because there is no cash payment on board.
• If your hotel is near Mihama American Village Entrance, the 14:00 route 120 from stop 5 arrives there at 15:08, earlier than the limousine.
• The Area A limousine leaves stop 1 at 14:10. It is due at Chatan Gateway at 15:22 and at Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort at 15:32.
• Fare: ¥1,000 per adult, ¥500 per child aged 3–11. Two adults pay ¥2,000 and can take up to two bags each (30 kg in total, each bag within 50 × 60 × 120 cm).
• The catch is the wait: 14:10 is the only Area A departure from the airport all day, so expect about an hour at the airport.

Landing at 15:05: take route 120, or a taxi if there are three of you

• Ready at stop 5 by about 15:45. You have just missed the 15:25 route 120, so the next one leaves at 16:05 and is due at Mihama American Village Entrance at 17:39. That's 94 minutes, because the evening run goes through central Naha.
• Fare: about ¥900 per adult, paid on board. The 19 October 2026 fare table doesn't list this stop; ¥900 is the higher of the two neighbouring fares (checked 11 October 2026).
• The airport's taxi estimate to American Village is about 40 minutes and about ¥5,600 per cab. That is the 1 July 2025 estimate from before the fare rise, so treat every taxi comparison below as a pre-rise figure.
• Against that pre-rise estimate, two adults pay ¥1,800 by bus and about ¥5,600 by taxi, and the taxi arrives roughly 25–55 minutes earlier. Three adults pay ¥2,700 by bus against the same estimate. Four adults: bus fares are ¥3,600, but four large cases rarely fit a standard taxi, so ask for a jumbo taxi at the long-distance stand.

Landing at 19:00: plan a Naha first night

• Ready at about 19:40. The last weekday route 120 left at 19:30, and the limousine finished at 14:10.
• A taxi still works: about ¥5,600 on the same pre-rise estimate. Okinawa's late-night surcharge is 20%, in principle from 22:00 to 05:00 (Okinawa General Bureau fare rules), so a 19:40 ride falls outside it.
• The fallback that can't sell out: Yui Rail from Naha Airport to Asahibashi, 11 minutes, ¥290. Sleep in Naha and take route 120 or 28 to Chatan the next morning.

Going back to the airport on a weekday: route 120 leaves Mihama American Village Entrance for Naha Airport at 7:03 (arriving 8:35), 9:04 (10:20) and 15:16 (16:40), and the last departure is 18:50, due 20:15. The limousine operator asks you to arrive at the airport about 120 minutes before your flight; use the same margin on route 120, because it runs through Naha's evening traffic.

The airport currently routes central and northern coaches, including the airport limousine, through stop 1. Route 120, route 143 and current Chatan direct shuttles appear at stop 5. These are different services with different tickets and endpoints.

From 19 October 2026, Okinawa Bus routes 120, 132 and 143 list the airport stop as “Naha Airport”, replacing “Domestic Passenger Terminal” and “International Passenger Terminal”. Some one-way fares to and from the airport are revised because the airport road layout adds 300 metres. Route 120 also changes timetable on that date: on weekdays it leaves Naha Airport 18 times, from 8:40 to 19:30, and the last departure arrives at Mihama American Village Entrance at 20:41. On Saturdays the last bus also leaves at 19:30 and is due at 20:48. On the new fare table, route 143 from the airport to Chatan Gateway is ¥900. The airport limousine is not part of this change. • From 19 October 2026, weekday route 120 leaves Naha Airport 18 times between 8:40 and 19:30; check the airport timetable after landing for changes on the day.
• Confirm the operator and route name, not only “Chatan.”
• If taking the limousine bus, purchase your ticket before heading to the boarding bay.
• Keep the ticket and check the bus destination before loading bags.

Okinawa Bus limits limousine trunk baggage to two items per person, 30 kg combined and stated per-item dimensions. It says large surfboards are not accepted for structural reasons.

The same operator says the airport limousine is not low-floor and cannot be boarded while using a wheelchair. A folding wheelchair can be stored under its conditions; an electric wheelchair cannot be stored in the trunk.

Our judgement, based on the 19 October 2026 timetables, the 21 August 2026 limousine timetable and Naha Airport's taxi estimate.

The 21 August Area A timetable names Chatan Gateway and selected hotel stops, while the airport route 120 map names Mihama American Village Entrance and Kuwae. The destination guide warns that its route and fare details may lag. Compare candidate stops with current operator timetables and the exact hotel entrance.

• Pin the exact lobby entrance on your map.
• Compare Area A hotel stops or Chatan Gateway with route 120's Mihama American Village Entrance or Kuwae.
• Check which side of the street to walk on, crossing points, pavement surfaces, and shade.
• Repeat the walk with the actual bags or mobility equipment.
• Save the return stop separately; it may be across the road.

Re-open the airport live timetable. If a later suitable route still reaches the hotel safely, use its own ticket and boarding rules. If not, move to the long-distance taxi stand or a confirmed transfer. When neither is acceptable, protect the night in Naha and travel to Chatan the next day.

Naha Airport says taxi estimates are not guaranteed. Traffic, route, and late-night or early-morning conditions can change the result, so taxi is a flexible fallback rather than a fixed-price promise.

2. Ready before 14:10 and your hotel is an Area A stop: buy the limousine ticket at the Airport Limousine Information Center (Domestic Terminal, 1F arrivals) and take the 14:10 from stop 1.
3. Otherwise, on weekdays from 19 October 2026, take route 120 from stop 5. The last one leaves at 19:30 and is due at Mihama American Village Entrance at 20:41.
4. Ready after 19:30, three or more adults, or heavy bags after about 17:00: take a taxi from the long-distance stand (about 40 minutes; about ¥5,600 on the airport's 1 July 2025 estimate, from before the 24 August 2026 fare rise), or spend the first night in Naha.
