Autumn colours, friends’ cooking and a first try at taiyaki

Autumn colours and two warm, sunny days set the scene for Haruru’s cottage stay. A nearby bath, food made by a friend and a first attempt at taiyaki gave her plenty to remember alongside the scenery.

From haruru.1002’s past account, edited with permission.

Autumn leaves and warm sunshine

Haruru remembered the autumn colours as wonderful. Both days were sunny and warm enough for her to go without a jacket. A photograph of red and orange leaves also carries her appreciation of the scenery.

The cottage photograph includes a note saying that it had a kitchen for cooking inside. Beyond the wooden building are autumn-coloured slopes and blue sky, keeping the accommodation and its surroundings together in her account.

Food made by a friend

Her friend made Chinese dishes, salads and chawanmushi. Haruru wrote that everything tasted delicious and that she was delighted.

Two photographs are labelled yodare chicken and century-egg tofu, and both say that a friend made them. Enjoying that cooking became another memorable part of the stay.

A warming bath and a first attempt at taiyaki

In her account, the bath was about a two-minute walk from the cottage. She found the outdoor bath hot and warming, and wrote that she did not need a jacket even when sitting by the campfire at night.

Her first attempt at taiyaki did not leave much room for the red-bean filling because she added too much batter. She wanted to try again, putting more thought into the filling next time.

An evening celebration after camping

The evening brought a celebration after camping, with first visits to an izakaya and a ramen restaurant. Haruru wrote that she wanted to return to both. The memories of the stay extended from autumn scenery and shared cooking to those final meals out.
