What to know first
Buy Ghibli Museum tickets on Lawson Ticket's English site, using the link on the Museum's own ticket page. Tickets for each month go on sale at 10:00 JST on the 10th of the month before: January 2027 opens on 10 December 2026, which is 01:00 in London and 02:00 in Paris and Berlin. Adults pay ¥1,000, and children under 4 go free. Nothing is sold at the door, and from November 2026 admissions tickets are browser e-tickets, so you don't need an app.

Release: 10:00 JST on the 10th of each month, for the whole of the following month.
Prices: adults (19 and over) ¥1,000; ages 13–18 ¥700; ages 7–12 ¥400; ages 4–6 ¥100; under 4 free, with no reservation needed. The Museum's notice of 6 October 2026 adds a system fee of ¥110 per ticket (tax included) from November 2026 admissions; its English ticket page doesn't yet show the fee.
Where to buy from overseas: Lawson Ticket (English), through the Museum's ticket page, or the Sunrise Tours (JTB) bus tour. There are no door sales.
Ticket format: admissions up to October 2026 used an app e-ticket or a Lawson paper ticket. From November 2026 admissions: a browser e-ticket or a Lawson paper ticket. Lawson's page says displaying the e-ticket requires SMS (text message) authentication, and screenshots or printouts of only the QR code are not accepted for entry.
Entry: slots on the hour from 10:00 to 16:00. You must enter within 1 hour of your slot; there is no exit time, and you can stay until closing at 18:00.
Hours and closures: 10:00–18:00, closed on Tuesdays and from 4 November 2026 to 18 November 2026. December 2026: closed on the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd, and for the winter closure from 27 December 2026 to 2 January 2027. January 2027: open on Tuesday 5 January as an exception; closed on Tuesdays 12, 19 and 26 January.
Resale is banned, and resold tickets are refused at the door.
Getting there: JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku to Mitaka takes about 20 minutes, then a 15-minute walk or the community bus (adults ¥230).

Choose what to do for your visit month
Your visit month is already on sale: buy now on Lawson Ticket, and pick a 10:00 or 11:00 slot for a calm first hour.
Your month isn't on sale yet: set an alarm 10 minutes before 10:00 JST on the 10th of the month before.
Your date is sold out: try other days in the same month. Neither the Museum nor Lawson Ticket says that returned tickets go back on sale, and Lawson doesn't refund or change tickets after purchase.
Every day is sold out: book the Sunrise Tours (JTB) bus tour, the only other official route.
You're travelling with a child under 4: don't buy them a ticket; they enter free.
You're visiting between 4 November 2026 and 18 November 2026, or on a Tuesday: pick another day, because the Museum is closed.

Worked example: a family visit on Wednesday 20 January 2027
1. Party: two adults, a 14-year-old and an 8-year-old.
2. Release: January tickets go on sale at 10:00 JST on Thursday 10 December 2026. That's 01:00 in London (GMT), 02:00 in Paris and Berlin (CET), 20:00 on Wednesday 9 December 2026 in New York (EST) and 12:00 in Sydney (AEDT).
3. Price: 2 × ¥1,000 + ¥700 + ¥400 = ¥3,100 admission. With the ¥110 system fee announced on 6 October 2026 on each of the four tickets, allow 4 × ¥110 = ¥440 more: ¥3,540.
4. Slot: 11:00. Be through the door by 12:00, then stay as long as you like until 18:00.
5. Day check: 20 January 2027 is a Wednesday, so it isn't a regular closing day (19 January 2027 and 26 January 2027 are Tuesdays).
6. Getting there: Shinjuku to Mitaka on the JR Chuo Line (about 20 minutes), then the community bus: 3 × ¥230 for the adults and the 14-year-old, plus the 8-year-old's child fare.
7. Ticket: a browser e-ticket. Keep the Lawson confirmation email; you don't need to install anything, but you need a phone that can receive an SMS code to display the ticket, and a screenshot won't get you in.

Use the official overseas route
The Museum lists Lawson Ticket as the way to buy from overseas. Start from the Museum's own ticket page so that a search result doesn't send you to a reseller or to the wrong Ghibli site.
The other official route is the Sunrise Tours (JTB) bus tour, which includes the Museum among several stops.
Lawson Ticket prints the buyer's name, as registered on their Lawson account, on every ticket, and the buyer enters together with the whole group, so arrive together. Staff may check the named buyer's ID at the entrance; bring your passport. Someone who isn't visiting can't buy tickets for you. Each account can buy once a month, up to 6 tickets, and the name and date can't be changed or refunded after purchase (checked 30 October 2026).

Entry time and the November 2026 change
You must enter within one hour of your slot time. There's no exit time; you can stay until closing (18:00).
From November 2026 admissions, Ghibli Museum tickets are browser e-tickets or Lawson paper tickets; admissions up to October 2026 used the app. The Museum is closed from 4 November 2026 to 18 November 2026, and its closure notice doesn't mention any change to the 10 November 2026 online release of December tickets.

Ghibli Museum and Ghibli Park tickets are not interchangeable
The Museum is in Mitaka, Tokyo. Ghibli Park is in Aichi and has its own overseas ticket page, sale day (14:00 JST on the 10th, two months ahead) and prices. A ticket for one doesn't get you into the other.

Do this now
1. Write down your visit date. Your release date is the 10th of the month before.
2. Convert 10:00 JST to your own time on that date (see step 2 of the worked example) and set two alarms: 10 minutes before, and at 10:00 JST.

Questions about this guide
When do Ghibli Museum tickets go on sale?
At 10:00 Japan time on the 10th of each month, for the whole of the following month. For example, January 2027 tickets go on sale on 10 December 2026. Japan doesn't change its clocks, so the time at home moves when your own clocks change.
Can I buy Ghibli Museum tickets at the door?
No. The Museum sells no tickets on site. Buy on Lawson Ticket (English) from the Museum's own ticket page, or join the Sunrise Tours (JTB) bus tour, which includes a Museum visit.
How much are Ghibli Museum tickets?
