Ghibli Museum tickets from overseas: release time and official route
Buy Ghibli Museum tickets from overseas through the official route, understand the monthly release time, and avoid confusing the Mitaka museum with Ghibli Park.
Short answer
Ghibli Museum in Mitaka requires advance reservation and does not sell admission at the museum. Its official English ticket page says overseas visitors can use the Lawson Ticket route, with tickets released at 10:00 a.m. JST on the 10th of each month for the following month. This is a different product from Ghibli Park in Aichi.
Use the official overseas purchase route
The museum lists Lawson Ticket as an official overseas-purchase method and also lists a separate JTB bus-tour option. Start from the museum’s own ticket page so that an unofficial search result does not send you to the wrong Ghibli destination.
Release time: 10:00 a.m. JST on the 10th for the following month
Convert the Japan-time sale opening before release day and decide your preferred dates in advance. Admission is date-and-time specific, and availability is not established until the official booking completes.
Ghibli Museum and Ghibli Park tickets are not interchangeable
The museum is in Mitaka, Tokyo; Ghibli Park is in Aichi and has its own overseas ticket products and sale timing. Do not use a generic “Ghibli ticket” article as proof that you have booked the destination you intended.
