Soba, watermelon and horumon: little notes from the table
Soba on a crowded evening, slices of watermelon and horumon on the grill: Haruru’s photographs collect brief comments on meals and small moments in the kitchen.
Scenes recorded in the photographs.
From a sushi plan to mugwort-tempura soba
A note on the photograph describes plans for sushi that evening, changed because everywhere was crowded. Haruru stopped for soba along the way instead. The words “よもぎ天蕎麦” identify mugwort-tempura soba, with a large green fritter and sliced spring onions covering the bowl.

An egg described as “artistic”
Another photograph shows an unusually shaped egg with rounded protrusions of white. Its note suggests that the shell had cracked. A photograph of the cut egg carries the word “artistic”—a small kitchen detail worth pausing to photograph.

Round and oval watermelons
A round watermelon is labelled the first of the year; a photograph of the cut fruit adds that it was sweet. Together, the pictures show the striped rind and red flesh before and after cutting.
Another photograph records receiving an oval watermelon. It appears on a red-rimmed plate, followed by a close view of the slices and seeds.

Horumon on the grill
A plate is captioned as a visit for horumon, or grilled offal. Another photograph shows pieces cooking with vegetables on a tabletop grill, with browning surfaces and a wisp of smoke.
Haruru wrote on the grill photograph that she would recommend the place. These pictures sit alongside the soba, watermelon and egg as separate moments, each with its own brief comment.
