Crab noodles, dessert and city views on the last Shenzhen day

For lunch on her last day in Shenzhen, Haruru dipped fine noodles into a rich crab accompaniment. Her account also remembers a fruit dessert and the city around her. Cafés, tall buildings and a station left impressions alongside the food.

From haruru.1002’s past accounts.

Fine noodles with a rich crab accompaniment

The final lunch was a crab noodle meal. Haruru’s account describes it as using one Shanghai crab, with plenty of roe and a rich flavour.

She dipped fine, somen-like noodles into the accompaniment, much as with tsukemen. It was unlike noodles she had eaten before, and she was delighted.

Tea that kept being topped up

The tea tasted to Haruru like ginger tea with sugar. It was not particularly to her taste, but she was thirsty, so she drank it and had it topped up again.

Each time she drank, more was poured, until she had had four cups. Someone pointed out that it kept coming because she kept drinking it, and she saw the point.

Fruit desserts had become a daily pleasure

She described that day’s dessert as coconut ice cream, mango, nata de coco and tapioca. Even after eating dessert so often, she was still enjoying the variety and flavours.

Eating this way felt different from her routine in Japan and became part of her memory of the trip.

Cafés and buildings changed her impression

Haruru found many of the cafés stylish, which changed her impression of the city. Shenzhen’s many tall buildings surprised her too.

Her final day left memories of the surroundings as well as the food.

A station view, with dinner still to tell

The station felt modern and very clean to Haruru. After describing lunch, dessert and her impressions of the city, she paused this account with a look ahead to a skewer restaurant that evening.
