Lamb shabu and a night parfait in Sapporo, then sushi at New Chitose Airport

Her first lamb shabu-shabu, a white-peach and Earl Grey parfait, and a late yakiniku meal filled the evening of Haruru’s second day in Hokkaido. The following day brought another food memory: sushi at New Chitose Airport.

From haruru.1002’s past accounts.

Trying lamb shabu-shabu for the first time

After a short rest, Haruru went to the lamb shabu-shabu restaurant she had booked. She had eaten lamb as jingisukan before, but shabu-shabu was new to her.

The thinly sliced meat amounted to three portions. She wondered whether she could finish it, although she enjoyed the taste. Eventually she could not eat any more and left some behind.

A white-peach and Earl Grey night parfait

The next stop was a night-parfait shop. With plenty of choices on the menu, she took time to decide before ordering white peach and Earl Grey.

She liked the peach and the way the Earl Grey jelly went with it. There were other elements too, but her account leaves the strongest impression in a simple thought: the parfait was delicious.

Another meal after a rest at the hotel

After a short rest at the hotel, Haruru went out for a late yakiniku meal. Following a recommendation to try sagari in Hokkaido, she did so and enjoyed it.

She also remembered hanasaki rosu and a tomato highball. The meal ended with shared cold noodles, along with the thought that she would have liked to arrive with a bigger appetite.

A rice-ball detour on the way back

Just outside the restaurant, Haruru found a rice-ball shop recommended by a friend. Even while wondering when she would eat them, she could not walk past and bought some.

After a short walk towards the hotel, she felt she could manage one and ate a warm salmon rice ball with butter and soy sauce. Despite being full, she enjoyed it enough to want to try making one herself.

The last morning and a missed gift

At the hotel buffet on the final morning, she chose foods she had enjoyed the day before. She checked out early and set off for New Chitose Airport.

Only after boarding did she learn that her friend had planned to bring sandwiches to the bus departure. She had caught an earlier bus and could not receive them, but her account keeps her gratitude for the friend’s thoughtfulness.

Sushi at New Chitose Airport before going home

After buying souvenirs at New Chitose Airport, Haruru realised that she had not yet eaten sushi. She found a standing sushi restaurant through a search, joined the queue and enjoyed a final meal of the trip.

She recalled waiting 30 minutes. Although she found the meal expensive, she was glad she had eaten there and closed her account wishing to return.
