Food in Odori Park, a melon favourite and a memorable motsu meal

Haruru had meant to keep the hotel buffet breakfast light, but ended up eating plenty. She still headed to the food event in Odori Park, where a melon smoothie special became her favourite.

From haruru.1002’s past accounts.

Sunshine and plenty to choose from in Odori Park

The day felt surprisingly hot for September in Hokkaido. Even so, Haruru was pleased with the clear weather for the event.

Each area from the fourth block had its own theme, making it difficult to choose what to eat. The photographed boards read “2025 Sapporo Autumn Fest” and show a venue map and food offerings.

Favourites and a few disappointments

The photographs include labels for grilled whelk and scallop, chicken over rice and meat sushi. Alongside the pleasure of trying different foods, Haruru recalled that some looked more promising than she found them to taste.

She hoped to try the Akkeshi oysters raw another time. The crab-shell dish did not bring the delight she remembered from an earlier experience, but she still thoroughly enjoyed the event.

A melon smoothie special she loved

The melon smoothie special impressed Haruru most. She loved the generous melon chunks and the fresh melon in the smoothie.

The photograph is annotated “my number one”. A Tomita Melon House sign appears behind the cup.

One more meal after the event

Although she was already full, Haruru went on to another recommended restaurant. She thought the motsu stew might be the best she had tried and also enjoyed the house-made sauce.

Other photographs are labelled motsu Matsumae pickle, sudachi sour and fresh makgeolli. She wrote that photography of the meat-sashimi dishes was prohibited, so she did not photograph them.

There were more dishes she wanted to try, but another restaurant was booked for later. She left reluctantly, hoping to return when she next came to Sapporo.
