An overnight bus to Aichi, then an Osu food walk with family

The overnight journey to Aichi was uncomfortable, but Haruru’s first day in Nagoya became a happy family food walk. The photographs follow the snacks and meals that made the day memorable.

From haruru.1002’s traveller account posted in September 2025, edited with permission.

Meet the family in Nagoya

Haruru took leave for a three-night, four-day visit to Aichi. She travelled out on an overnight bus with four seats in each row and found it cramped. Although she felt sleepy, she could not sleep. She was glad to have returned by Shinkansen.

On the first day, she met up with family in Nagoya and went eating around Osu. Her photograph at the Niomon-dori entrance marks the start of the food walk.

The first stop was shaved ice

A photograph of the menu at Yokubaru introduces the first stop. The pictures show shaved ice in a melon shell, a white-looking mango version and royal milk tea shaved ice.

The melon dish left a particularly vivid note: she felt there was more melon than ice and described it as sweet.

Hot snacks and meat sushi between the sweets

The food photographs include a potato-coated hot dog, coin-shaped bread and karaage. Takoyaki sandwiched between shrimp crackers earned an especially enthusiastic note about its taste.

A storefront photograph identifies ちゅろ。, with Hida beef sushi on the menu. Beside the sushi itself, Haruru wrote that it melted in her mouth. These were her impressions of that visit.

Rice balls and cold soup at Onimaru

Her pictures of Onimaru show a display of rice balls that she enjoyed. Cold hiyajiru soup was another highlight: the bowl looked different from the poster, but she still thought it tasted good.

The food walk also included tenmusu rice balls. Her note on those was more restrained, describing them as ordinary. The different reactions give the day more detail than a list of uniformly favourite dishes.

A pizza stop became a rest

After walking, she stopped to rest at SOLO PIZZA Napoletana. The next photograph shows a pizza, with a playful note about finding it hard to leave the food alone even during a break.

Finish as the day began

The last stop returned to shaved ice. A sign at 今井総本家 advertises chestnut milk ice, followed by a photograph of the chestnut-topped bowl. Her note makes the rhythm explicit: shaved ice at the start, and shaved ice at the end.

Kebabs and dumplings were among the things she said she had not photographed. She was surprised by how much the outing involved eating, but remembered it as delicious, fun and a happy time with family.
