Osaka’s final day, from food stops to dumplings on the train
Haruru spent the final day of her Osaka trip trying different foods, including takoyaki, sushi and fried skewers. She finished with mitarashi dumplings on the Shinkansen home.
From haruru.1002’s past accounts.
A day of small food stops
She began the final day’s food walk at ten in the morning with a beef-tendon croquette. She then tried takoyaki at Wanaka with salt, as someone had recommended, and enjoyed it.
She also tried the takosen she had wanted: a prawn cracker with sauced takoyaki and a cheese topping.
She picked up mozuku tempura from an Okinawan food shop and a sugar-butter crepe as well. Even as she grew full, there were more things she wanted to try.
The sushi she had wanted and a final skewer meal
She went to Sushimasa, a restaurant she had wanted to try in Osaka. On that visit she queued for about half an hour, then ordered what she liked. She enjoyed sardine and horse mackerel, with engawa particularly memorable.
For the final meal of the trip, she chose a fried-skewer restaurant and ordered an omakase course with different accompaniments for different foods.
Already quite full, she stopped after eight skewers and had dessert. She appreciated both the food and the chance to talk at a relaxed pace.
A final taste on the train home
On the Shinkansen home, she ate the mitarashi dumplings she had seen on television. She liked the char on the rice dumplings and felt the sauce was a little light.
She recorded walking nearly forty thousand steps over two days and eating plenty. For the three women on the trip, she felt the food walk had been a success.
