A train trip to Mitsubachi for salt-seasoned chicken wings

The salt-seasoned chicken wings were the reason Haruru travelled by train to Mitsubachi. They surprised her from the first bite, and she enjoyed them enough to order two more at the end of the meal.

From haruru.1002’s account shared in September 2023, edited with permission.

The wings she had come to try

Haruru began with the wings as they were, without adding anything. She had expected them to be warm, so their slightly cool temperature surprised her. What stayed with her was the flavour: simple in appearance, but much more satisfying than she had expected.

The master suggested eating them by hand. The small bowl of coloured water with lemon beside the plate was for washing her fingertips, as she explained in her account.

She also tried one fried wing and enjoyed it, though the salt-seasoned wings were the more memorable part of the meal for her. The photographed menu names both dishes: 塩鶏の手羽先 and 揚げ手羽先.

Noodles, juice and an honest comparison

She ordered yakisoba with thick noodles. The master explained that it was lightly seasoned so she could add sauce and a spicy condiment to her taste. The noodles did not make the same impression on her as the wings.

Her drink was a coconut-banana juice, which she liked enough to want a second glass. At the end of the meal, she ordered another two salt-seasoned wings.

A coffee-bar atmosphere worth remembering

Haruru liked the shop’s retro atmosphere, describing it as reminiscent of an older-style café. The menu reads COFFEE BAR MITSUBACHI, while the entrance photograph shows its wooden door and a 38 logo.

She finished her account with a thought for a future visit: next time, she wanted the master to make her a coffee. On this visit, the wings had given her a reason to make the journey.
