A birthday at Midori Sushi, with cakes from Shibuya

Birthday messages and gifts arrived in the morning. Haruru then had a generous lunch, returned to Midori Sushi’s main restaurant after several years and went to Shibuya for cakes. Her photographs keep the dishes and small celebrations from that day.

A past birthday outing shared in a March 18 post, edited with Haruru’s existing permission.

A hearty birthday lunch

The day’s first meal was a generous lunch. One photograph shows rice, soup and several small side dishes around a plate of grilled meat. Another is labelled “beef tongue and harami”.

She was already full after lunch, with a reservation at Midori Sushi still to come that afternoon. The two meals became part of a birthday she enjoyed from start to finish.

Back at Midori Sushi’s main restaurant

It had been several years since Haruru had eaten at Midori’s main restaurant. The wooden sign in her photograph reads “Umegaoka” and “Midori Sohonten”, keeping a view of the entrance from that return.

Her note records a premium sushi selection and some extra pieces of her choice. Even after the earlier lunch, she found room for sushi and enjoyed being back.

Sushi and a few extra dishes

Her photographs include anago on a long piece of sushi and octopus with ponzu. Another picture labels two pieces as aji and iwashi. The individual labels keep the names with the dishes she photographed.

She also photographed hokkigai, describing it as substantial and delicious. By the time she took a picture of arajiru, her note on the image said that her stomach was completely full.

Cakes from Shibuya to finish the birthday

Plans to continue to a second place gave way to a trip to Shibuya for cakes. Choosing them took some thought, and she bought enough for the next day as well.

After walking around for a little while, she enjoyed cake to finish the day. One picture shows two cakes with candles and a birthday plate. A separate picture is explicitly labelled as the next day’s portion, photographed only.
