A market visit, a shellfish lunch and mango shaved ice

After being taken to a market, Haruru enjoyed a lunch of abalone, razor clams and delivered Peking duck, among other dishes. Sweet mango shaved ice was another memorable part of this account of food on her trip.

From haruru.1002’s past accounts.

Looking around the food stalls

At the market, Haruru looked at abalone, other shellfish and oysters. The size of the frogs sold for food surprised her too. The way the meat was displayed also left an impression on her.

Abalone, razor clams and delivered Peking duck

The abalone were sautéed in butter, and Haruru ate two. She described steaming the razor clams with sake and adding butter at the end. She particularly enjoyed their texture and flavour.

Delivered Peking duck and oysters topped with garlic also joined the lunch. Thinking about the days left in the trip made her want to fit in more of the food she hoped to enjoy.

Delighted by the ripe, sweet mango

Dessert was mango shaved ice. Haruru had enjoyed an earlier bowl too, but this time she found the mango ripe and sweet, making it even more satisfying.
