A Nakasu stall and a seafood second stop in Hakata

Having a drink at a Nakasu food stall was something Haruru had looked forward to on her first trip to Fukuoka. The stall she eventually chose made the evening a happy one. Afterwards, a second stop brought a sashimi platter big enough to fill her up.

Two personal Hakata records saved in October 2020, edited with Haruru’s existing permission.

An evening among the Nakasu stalls

Haruru had travelled to Kyushu before, but Fukuoka was new to her. On this trip, which also included Oita, she had been especially looking forward to drinking at the Nakasu stalls.

She found the street quiet on that occasion, with plenty of calls inviting people in. Her photographs show lights across the river and a line of stalls, with tempura, skewers and ramen advertised on signs and noren curtains. Choosing where to sit took some thought.

A stall she was glad she chose

The stall she settled on turned out to be a great choice. The proprietor’s conversation was fun, the food was delicious, and she particularly enjoyed the motsu-yaki.

One photograph shows cooked offal with bean sprouts, green onion and sesame. Another small pan holds broth, vegetables and other pieces of food. They recall the enjoyable meal at the stall.

More dishes from the stall evening

The food photographs also include dumplings with green onion, dumplings with browned sides, and a skewer dish with an orange topping.

Together they keep a few more details of the evening’s food. After enjoying the stall, she was ready to head to a second stop.

A second stop for a generous sashimi platter

For the second stop, she chose a place that had received good reviews. The sashimi alone was enough to make her feel full.

The large platter in her photograph is arranged with seafood, shells, lemon and small bamboo containers. She found the sashimi fresh and felt thoroughly satisfied with her choice.

A few skewers, even after the sashimi

Even though she was already full, she wanted to make the most of the visit and ordered a few skewers as well.

The photograph shows them on a long white plate, including pieces with leafy vegetables wrapped inside. The evening had brought two different pleasures: a lively conversation at the stall and a seafood meal that left her very happy.
