A first Shin-Okubo food walk, then on to Kichijoji

Haruru had wanted to visit Shin-Okubo for some time. She met a friend at nine in the morning and they took the train there. A reserved lunch led to a food walk, followed by an evening in Kichijoji, with plenty of things to share along the way.

From haruru.1002’s past accounts.

Lunch at the restaurant her friend had booked

With so many restaurants to choose from, her friend’s booking gave them a place to start. Haruru enjoyed the ganjang gejang, samgyeopsal and dumpling soup, and they agreed they were glad to have eaten there.

The table photographs also show japchae, rice and meat on the grill, recording several parts of the meal.

Sharing small bites around Shin-Okubo

They were full after lunch, but still wanted to try things around the neighbourhood. Sharing let them taste small amounts as they walked.

The photographs include small buns, a potato-coated hot dog, the display at ABEBE BAKERY and cups from 2D Cafe. They bought nama doughnuts to take home.

On to Kichijoji for standing sushi

They took the train to Kichijoji for the evening and enjoyed browsing Atre, the station shopping complex. Once they had a little room again, they headed to a favourite standing sushi restaurant.

They meant to eat lightly before it got busy, but ate more than the photographs show and left full. The pictures include horse mackerel nigiri and sea urchin gunkan, along with conger-eel-and-cucumber and tuna-and-pickled-radish rolls.

Soy-milk dessert and a cutlet to take home

After browsing shops and a supermarket, they stopped at the soy-milk specialist her friend had wanted to try. Haruru found the dessert a little less sweet than she would have liked.

When they passed Sato later, the long queue they had seen earlier was much shorter. Too full to eat on the spot, she took a minced-meat cutlet home and enjoyed it there, along with the doughnuts.
