Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum: tickets, opening hours and when you need to book

Before you go: three things that change your plan

  • You only need to book for the first hour or the late window. Entering the permanent exhibition in the first hour (7:30–8:30) or in the late window needs an advance online reservation; the museum lists no reservation requirement for other hours.
  • The late window moves with the season. It is 17:30–18:30 from March to July and September to November, 18:30–19:30 in August (18:30–20:30 on 5 and 6 August), and 16:30–17:30 from December to February.
  • Without a reservation, be inside before the late window starts. That means by 17:30 from March to July and September to November, 18:30 in August and 16:30 from December to February; with a reservation, entry ends 30 minutes before closing. A late-afternoon visit after Miyajima needs a firm return time.

What to know first

An adult ticket costs ¥200, high-school students pay ¥100, and junior-high students and younger are free. For most of the day you do not need to book, but entry to the permanent exhibition in the first hour (7:30–8:30) and in the late-entry window before closing requires an advance online reservation. The museum opens at 7:30 all year and closes at 19:00 from March to July and September to November, 20:00 in August (21:00 on 5 and 6 August) and 18:00 from December to February. It is closed on 30 and 31 December and in mid-February.

Bags, photos and parking

  • Bags: large bags are not allowed in; lockers are on the first floor of the East Building. We have not verified locker sizes or how many there are, so if you are carrying a suitcase, consider leaving it at your hotel first (our judgement).
  • Photos and video: personal use without flash is allowed, with no application needed. Tripods and selfie sticks are not allowed. Flash or photographs for publication need an application in advance.
  • Parking: Peace Memorial Park has no public car park; the museum points drivers to paid parking nearby.

Worked example: two adults and a 15-year-old high-school student, early on an October morning

  • You want to be in at 7:45, inside the first hour, so book online in advance.
  • Tickets: 2 × ¥200 + ¥100 = ¥500.
  • In October the museum closes at 19:00. If you arrive later in the day instead, enter by 18:30 at the latest; 17:30 – 18:30 is the late-entry window that needs a reservation.
