Rice bowls first, and a full afternoon at Furusato Matsuri Tokyo

Haruru was surprised by the number of stalls on her first visit to Furusato Matsuri Tokyo. There was plenty she wanted to try, but starting with rice bowls meant that she was full sooner than expected.

From haruru.1002’s account of the Tokyo Dome festival shared in January 2020, edited with permission.

A first visit and far more stalls than expected

She went to the festival at Tokyo Dome on a Saturday and was surprised by how many stalls there were. With so much food to choose from, she quickly found plenty she wanted to eat.

Her photographs record the busy indoor aisles and festival displays, alongside the food from the visit.

Starting with rice bowls and filling up early

She ate rice bowls first and soon felt full. The photographs show several bowls with different toppings, rather than a small snack here and there.

Her favourites were the nodoguro rice bowl and the beef sukiyaki and harami rice bowl. Those were the two she particularly recommended from that visit.

Four hours of eating, drinking and festival atmosphere

Her account included more food than she had photographed: beef-tongue skewers, gelato, beef harami, crisp chicken-skin snacks, thin-skinned buns and freshly squeezed mandarin juice, among other things.

She described the four hours as eating, drinking and then eating some more. A photograph of an illuminated festival float adds another memory of the atmosphere inside the dome.

By the end, she was certain that she wanted to go again the following year.

Haruru’s first visit to the Tokyo Dome festival is described in an account shared on 20 January 2020. Her rice-bowl choices, unphotographed foods, four-hour visit and wish to return are drawn from that account. The organiser’s 2020 material confirms the historical event name.
