A little lucky dip: the Mei pose Haruru wanted
Haruru wished she could choose her favourite Mei pose rather than buy a box with hidden contents. She decided to take a chance, then opened it just outside the shop to find the very pose she wanted.

Wishing she could choose the pose
The box held a Mei figure from My Neighbor Totoro. Several poses were pictured on the packaging, but the contents would be a surprise until it was opened.
Haruru wished she could simply buy her favourite pose. She read the instructions asking customers not to shake the box or inspect the contents, then chose the box at the front left as a little lucky dip.
Opening it before she got home
The pose she wanted was called ‘逃げちゃった’. Unable to wait until she got home, Haruru opened the box just outside the shop.
Inside was the very Mei she had hoped for. A photograph shows the red dress and black hands, while Haruru’s words capture her delight at the surprise.
A photograph with Totoro and friends
Haruru took a commemorative photograph with Totoro and friends too. It brings Mei together with Totoro, the Catbus and small black figures with eyes.
She wrote that Totoro still felt comforting, whatever her age. Laughing that she had used up some luck on this purchase, she remembered it with affection.
