An early start for a first visit to Kusatsu
For my first visit to Kusatsu Onsen, I left at five in the morning and arrived at half past eight. With fewer people around, I could take my time walking, enjoy a footbath and watch a yumomi show.

An early arrival left time to explore
With fewer people around, I could take my time walking and taking photographs. I enjoyed a footbath and watched a yumomi show, feeling that the early start had been worthwhile.
At half past eleven I went for a reserved meal. It did not quite suit my taste, but I enjoyed the hot springs and the walk.
Back to Yubatake after a rest
After a short nap, I returned to Yubatake. There were plenty of izakaya to discover and, at the time, hot springs offered through local generosity. Taking my time around town brought new discoveries.
The photographs show the words “草津温泉 湯畑,” water, rocks and wooden channels. A separate night photograph keeps a view lit in blue and purple.
Food memories from a long day out
There was time to eat and drink between walks. The food photographs show a fish on a plate, a drink glass and noodles, while an exterior photograph has a soba sign.
It became a long day out, but I remembered it as a full and enjoyable visit to Kusatsu. The melody of the Kusatsu song stayed in my head for a while afterwards.
