A change of cherry-blossom plans led to Hachioji

Haruru changed her cherry-blossom outing from Showa Kinen Park to the imperial mausoleum grounds in Hachioji. The day brought lunch, a fruitless search for bamboo shoots, beautiful blossoms and a birthday gift.

From haruru.1002’s account shared in April 2019, edited with permission.

Italian lunch, then a search for bamboo shoots

Lunch was Italian again. Her photographs record pasta, pizza and several other plates from the meal.

After lunch, she stopped at a roadside station to look for bamboo shoots. They appeared to have sold out soon after opening, so she could not buy any.

A visit to the mausoleum and blossoms beside the river

She then visited Emperor Showa’s mausoleum before the change to the Reiwa era. The stone marker in her photograph reads “Emperor Showa, Musashino Mausoleum”.

She found the cherry blossoms within the grounds beautiful. The trees along the nearby river were just as impressive, making the changed destination a rewarding place for her day of blossom viewing.

A mimosa planter to take home

Later, at Joyful Honda, she received a mixed planter of mimosa as a birthday present and was delighted with it.

She wondered whether she might be able to make a wreath the following year. With plenty of eating and laughter, it had been a happy day before returning to work.
