Three dishes for a friend’s lunch, and memories of country crafts

After several years, Haruru visited a friend at home, bringing paella, clam chowder and her usual scones. Her friend’s cooking and lovely tableware helped make the lunch memorable, while conversation returned to country-style ornaments and doll-making.

From haruru.1002’s past accounts.

Paella, clam chowder and the usual scones

Haruru brought three dishes: paella, clam chowder and her usual scones. This time she had tried making the paella in a STAUB pot.

The rice turned out a little soft, but she felt the paella had still come out well. Clam chowder, prepared despite the heat, and the scones completed her contribution to lunch.

Her friend’s food, lovely tableware and time to talk

Her friend added dishes of her own, and Haruru admired the tableware too. She remembered the reunion as a wonderful lunch at home.

Their conversation turned to country-style ornaments and the days when they had been absorbed in making country dolls. Remembering that time was part of the pleasure, and she hoped they could meet again at leisure.

A closing note about a succulent

Her account ends with a separate small pleasure: a succulent bought earlier at a market in Hachioji. She found it soothing to look at.
