A first razor-clam outing, with a surprisingly strong pull
Haruru had been clam gathering before, but razor clams were new to her. On a clear day in early April, she found that the tug of a large clam was a big part of the fun.
A personal memory of a first razor-clam outing in early April.
Setting out on a clear April day
The weather was bright and clear. Haruru set off for her first razor-clam outing, curious to try something different from the clam gathering she had done before.
Her photograph from the journey holds onto that clear sky and the excitement of heading out. The first experience turned out to be much more entertaining than she had expected.

The fun was in the pull
Seeing a clam emerge from a hole in the sand was exciting, but pulling it out could take some effort. A large one pulled back strongly, and Haruru enjoyed that little contest.
She came away wishing she had tried it sooner. What stayed with her was the pleasure of the activity itself, especially that unexpected resistance.

Butter and a little spice
The clams were stir-fried with butter. Haruru found their flavour mild, so she added some spice to finish the dish.
The outing left her with both the memory of a new experience and a meal to enjoy afterwards.
