Community contribution terms

These terms keep participation lightweight without taking ownership away from photographers, copying linked social photos or turning unreviewed comments into published claims.

1. You keep ownership

You retain copyright in material you submit. You give Japan, Booked. a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to store, review, reproduce and display an accepted contribution on this website and its official posts that link back to the guide.

2. Necessary edits only

We may resize, crop, compress, convert formats, remove metadata, add a caption or blur personal information. We will not sell a submitted photo as a standalone stock asset or use it for model training under this permission.

3. You must have permission

Submit only material you created or are authorised to provide. Identifiable people must have agreed to publication unless they are blurred before publication. Do not submit private documents, booking codes, addresses, vehicle plates or restricted photography.

4. Public links are not photo licences

When you submit a public Instagram or Google Maps link, you are giving us a lead to review, not permission to copy the linked image. We may publish a labelled link to the original platform or use that platform's official embed or API when permitted. We do not download, screenshot, crop or rehost the linked image as our own contribution.

5. Review comes before publication

A submission is a lead, not verified evidence. We may reject, edit, postpone or remove it. Publication is not guaranteed, and a contributor does not control the final editorial conclusion.

6. Contact and privacy

Contact details are used for rights, location and fact checks. They are not published as a photo credit. Original photo files remain private during review, and publication copies have image metadata removed.

Pending submissions are retained for up to 90 days. Accepted private submissions are retained for up to 365 days so the publication and rights record can be completed. Declined submissions are retained for up to 30 days. A removal decision deletes the private photo and submitted content immediately.

7. Removal and rights reports

A contributor or rights holder can request removal by submitting an article/field note titled “Rights or removal request” with the page URL, contribution reference and reason. We may retain the minimum private record needed to document the request: the reference, contribution type, status, terms version, timestamps, reviewer and private decision reason.
